Review: HAMILTON The Musical

The SOLD OUT Broadway show is in San Diego Through January 28th!

January 10, 2018

"Hamilton- who cares?!?! Why is it everywhere?! Is it really THAT good?" That's what a lot of skeptics say about the award winning musical from Lin-Manuel Miranda, and I wa one of them. I was so sick and tired of seeing it all over TV and hearing about it every where I turned. So when I got the invite to check it out I thought to myself, "You know what? Let's go see what all the hype is about."

I've never been happier to admit that I was wrong! I was just being a hater. Hamilton was soooooooo good and aboslutely worth the hype! The entire cast is full of extremely talented actors/performers. I was hooked after the opening number. The songs were the perfect balance between hip-hop, R&B, and jazz. Hamilton was filled with emotion and drama. The modern take on a America's history was so captivating and fresh. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen in the next scene.

One of my favorite characters was King George, played by Rory O'Malley of the original Broadway production. He was so funny!

While I was waiting in line for the women's restroom during intermission, I was talking to a woman who had seen Hamilton 8 times! I thought she was crazy, but now I understand why. It was interesting to learn about Alexander Hamilton's personal life and his relationships with our other founding fathers. I went home and immediately started googling more facts about him. Every one should watch this musical because it was such a fun way to learn about America's foundation.

I highly recommend seeing Hamilton while it's here in San Diego (through January 28). The shows are sold out, but producers have opened up 35 orchestra seats for every show and you can get those tickets by entering a $10 raffle every morning at 11 a.m. You can enter online or through an app on your phone. Good luck! It's definitely worth it.
