80's Rewind

Since he won an Oscar it's only fitting to spotlight one of his biggest songs not only on Sunny, but in general!

"I'm Still Standing is from the album Too Low for Zero and is directed at a former lover as Elton shows that he's strong without this person in his life.  The lyric ("You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use") conveys the message of finding confidence after a difficult breakup.

The video did very well on MTV which helped the song climb the charts and introduced Elton to a younger audience at the time.  This was Elton's first MTV hit and showed he was ready to embrace the format, something not every established star was willing to do.  Being from England where videos were popular long before MTV went on the air in 1981 definitely helped Elton.
