More than 44,400 pounds of donated dog and cat food was delivered to your Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas on Tuesday morning, November 14.

The food was donated through Rescue Bank® operated by Greater Good.org, a non-profit organization that supports animal rescue and rehabilitation groups by providing services and supplies. The pet food will be distributed to animal rescue groups throughout southern California.

RCHS President Jim Silveira says, “Every time we work with Rescue Bank and Greatergood.org we see the direct impact of their generosity. This donation includes a little more than 44,000 pounds of Smuckers, Natural Balance, and Nature’s Recipe Dry and Wet cat and dog food. All of this will be distributed to Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s rescue partners.’”

Silveira says this donation from Rescue Bank is far reaching. “Many rescues struggle to pay for the food they need to sustain the pets under their care. With donations from Rescue Bank, they pay the cost of having the food shipped here, but the food is free. That means they can save money from their food budgets. The money they save can be used to provide more spay/neuter, veterinary, and care services.”

This is one of the largest pet food donations in the 57 year history of Rancho Coastal Humane Society. This donation will provide more than 100,000 meals for dogs and cats in San Diego and surrounding counties.
